IPL 2022: MI out, CSK have 2% chance of top 4 finish - all playoff possibilities in 11 points

With 17 matches left to play in the league stage of IPL 2022, there remain a staggering 1.3 lakh possible combinations of results (1,31,072 to be precise). TOI looks at each of these possibilities to calculate the chances of individual teams making the playoffs.

As of noon on Sunday, May 8, here is what those chances look like: *MI is definitely out of the running for a playoff spot. The best the five time champions can hope for is finishing fifth *CSK still have a 2% chance of finishing joint fourth or even joint third, if it wins its four remaining matches * CSK's chances of finishing joint third however are a mere 0.2% and involve a tie of anywhere between four and six teams on 14 points * Despite two extra points, KKR's chances of finishing in the top four are only slightly better at 3.3%.
