Mystery of man found with 'life-threatening' injuries in Greater Manchester town centre

Detectives say they are trying to 'piece together' exactly what happened to a man found in a town centre with 'life-threatening' injuries.

He is in a serious condition in hospital after being found badly injured on Gale Street in Heywood at around 5.50pm on Thursday. An investigation has been launched and police are now appealing for witnesses as they try to establish how he came by his injuries.

But police say they 'cannot rule out' an assault. They have appealed for anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage in the area around the that time to come forward.

Det Sgt Timothy O’Callaghan, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said: "We are working to piece together the exact timeline of what led to this man suffering serious injuries. Our initial enquiries cannot rule out a potential assault or attack, which is why we are asking for people to contact us.

"We would appreciate anyone who has any relevant footage or information getting in touch – it could greatly benefit our ongoing work."

Police are specifically requesting footage from the areas around the Bury New Road junctions of High Street, Regent Street, and Rose Hill between 4.45pm and 5.35pm on Thursday.

Anyone with information 101 or gmp.police.uk, quoting log 2908 of July 11 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
