Man charged with six counts of rape following alleged city centre incidents

A man is due to appear in court charged with six counts of rape following four alleged incidents in Manchester city centre. Mourad Malki has been charged with 12 alleged offences in total, Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning (Wednesday, July 24).

The 47-year-old has also been charged with sexual assault; theft of phones, jewellery and bank cards; and fraud. The charges relate to four incidents which allegedly took place between February and July this year.

Malki, of Smedley Road, north Manchester, has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court later today (July 24).

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt, GMP's force lead for rape and other sexual offences, said on Sunday: "We urge anyone who has experienced sexual violence or abuse, to please come forward and report it to us. Every report will be thoroughly investigated, and we will ensure that you and your loved ones are fully supported every step of the way as we seek justice."
