"My Sky Italy colleague..." - Michael Bridge drops intriguing claim on Tottenham target Bastoni

Tottenham may still have a small chance of signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Their hopes of landing the Italian international appear to have significantly diminished in recent days, but Bridge has hinted that Spurs could still tempt Bastoni over to England.

Italian outlet Calciomercato claimed earlier this month that Antonio Conte is very keen to bring Bastoni to north London, and has been getting constant updates on the player’s situation.

However, Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti recently told reporters: “Bastoni will certainly remain at Inter. He has a contract with Inter, he is happy to play at Inter and there’s no problem.”

Tinti’s message could not have been much clearer, and seemed to put any speculation regarding Bastoni’s future to bed.

However, Bridge has stated that Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio still feels there is a glimmer of hope for Spurs in their pursuit of the £54m-rated centre-back.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Bridge said: “I thought it was pretty much over, then my Sky Italy colleague Gianluca Di Marzio didn’t completely shut the door by saying: ‘it isn’t completely finished’. But I think that’s more to do with Inter’s finances. At some point, Spurs are just going to have to completely move on and say: ‘this isn’t going to happen.’”

It’s looking unlikely that Tottenham will be able to convince the 23-year-old to leave the Nerazzurri in the coming months, as things stand.

However, Inter were in a similar position last year where they needed to sell one of their star players to raise funds due to their financial issues.
