'My grandson can't wait for it to drop through the letterbox': Stockport County season ticket holders' excitement for the new season

Following a positive first season back in the Football League, Stockport County endured penalty heartbreak at the League Two Final at Wembley in May. However, County season ticket holders are now looking ahead to their second season back in the Football League with a mixture of optimism and excitement.

Although last season didn’t have the fairytale ending that County fans were looking for, it couldn’t take the shine off a memorable family day out for lifelong fan Sam Peacock, who travelled down to London with his seven-year-old grandson Charlie and met up with family there.

“I wasn't disappointed, believe me, not at all,” he says. “It was just a pleasure. I was at the last Wembley match, and that was 13 years previous, so they don't come around very often.”

He started bringing Charlie to Edgeley Park last season and excitement is high for the first game of the season against Gillingham on August 5th, their first as season ticket holders.

“My grandson's dead excited, he can't wait for it to drop through the letterbox,” says Sam. “He's hooked on them. The first match we went to was last September, and as soon as we walked in the ground, he went, 'Wow!'.

“You could see the change in the place with the facilities that have been provided, and the place looks clean and tidy. Also, it's a very safe atmosphere to be in with a child, because we sit in the family stand. It's brilliant.”
