Murder accused 'calmly walked back' to car after seeing man shot dead, jury told

A man accused of murder 'calmly walked back' to his car after seeing another man shot dead, a jury has been told. Emmanuel Onasanya denied he was 'calm' and told the court he was 'scared' after seeing Rumaal Ingram shoot his half-brother Zikel Bobmanuel.

Mr Bomanuel, 32, died after a bullet ricocheted from the ground and hit him on Welland Street in Openshaw on March 25. Jurors at Manchester Crown Court were shown CCTV footage of the shooting, which showed Ingram open fire and Mr Onasanya walking a distance behind him.

Moments before the shooting, jurors were told that Ingram had removed the gun from his waistband. Mr Onasanya denied knowing that Ingram had a gun before that point.

"Was there anything stopping you just turning around and going back to the car?," prosecutor Gordon Cole KC asked the defendant, of the moment he saw the gun.

Mr Onasanya said he was 'scared' and in 'total disbelief'. Further footage was shown as Ingram and Mr Onasanya made their way back to a car.

"You turned around, and you and Rumaal Ingram calmly walked back to the car," Mr Cole claimed. "I wasn't calm, I was scared," he replied.

Mr Onasanya, 32, was giving evidence for a third day at the trial where he and Ingram, 36, both deny murder. Ingram has admitted shooting Mr Bobmanuel, and has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Prosecutors say the shooting followed a row over a debt owed for the cleaning of trainers. Mr Onasanya ran a business cleaning trainers, and had agreed to clean five pairs of trainers for Mr Bobmanuel, at a price of £20 per pair.
