Multiple schools put into 'lockdown' after reports of man with knife

A 'number' of Bury schools were put into 'lockdown' this morning after concerns over a man with a knife.

Police were called to Manchester Road at around 11am on Friday (March 7) after a report of a man with a knife.

Lockdown measures were implemented in local schools including Bury Church of England High School on Haslam Brow and St Gabriel's High School on Bridge Road as a precaution. No further sightings have been reported, police said.

Greater Manchester Police have said they believe the report to be an 'isolated incident', adding 'highly visible' officers remain in the community.

The force said: "At 11am this morning (Friday 7 March) we were called to Manchester Road, Bury to a report of a man with a knife.

"Additional patrols and armed officers were deployed to the area to conduct searches. No further sightings have been reported to police."

Inspector Mcfadden, said: "We believe that this is an isolated incident at this time and officers are currently following a number of lines of enquiry.

"Highly visible officers remain in the area to reassure the local community.

"Anyone with information, or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to contact 101, quoting reference number 981 of 7/3/25.”
