LIVE: Police descend on street as six arrested after 'serious' incident with three cordons in place

Police have taped off a street in south Manchester this morning with crime scene investigators spotted behind the cordon.

Three police scenes are in place across south Manchester after police were called to Wilmslow Road just before 2am.

"It’s believed that a group of men were fighting with weapons, believed to be knives and hammers, and several were injured," a GMP spokesman said.

"Their injuries are serious, but they are thankfully not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening. Six men aged 18 to 24 have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They remain in police custody for questioning."

Denison Road in Rusholme is one of the scenes cordoned off as detectives work following the 'serious' incident.

Pictures seen by the Manchester Evening News appear to show a car with significant damage to its windscreen inside the cordon.

Witnesses report seeing a 'heavy police presence' in the area as well as on Park Crescent.

We now know six men have been arrested and several 'seriously hurt' after a mass brawl on Wilmslow Road in the early hours of the morning.

The men were believed to be fighting with knives and hammers.
