Muhammad Ali's Rumble in the Jungle belt sells for millions at auction
Muhammad Ali’s WBC heavyweight championship belt from his famous Rumble in the Jungle bout has sold for £5.15million.
His 1974 clash against George Foreman is one of the most iconic fights in boxing history and now one lucky person owns a very illustrious bit of memorabilia from said bout.
The two titans faced off in Kinshasa, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) for the heavyweight title, where, in front of 60,000 people, Ali recaptured the strap via an eighth-round stoppage.
Now, 47 years later, the title belt has sold for 13 times its estimated value of £400,000 at an auction in Dallas, Texas.
The man who put the belt up for sale is American businessman Troy Kinunen, who, according to The Sun, has collected in excess of 1,600 items related to Ali.
Jim Irsay, owner of the NFL team Indianapolis Colts, was the auction winner, confirming he has got his hands on the green and gold strap via a tweet.
