Best first touch ever? Talles Magno for New York City FC vs Inter Miami

Talles Magno is a name most average football fans probably won’t recognise.

Connoisseurs of the beautiful game believe the 20-year-old Brazilian has the potential to be a global superstar in the future, but he’s not yet a household name.

That’s because Magno is currently plying his trade in Major League Soccer with New York City FC, who’ve previously played home to the likes of Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.

Magno joined the franchise from boyhood club Vasco de Gama in 2021 and he’s quietly making a name for himself in the United States of America.

In the 2021/22 campaign, the Brazil Under-17 international has scored five goals and assisted a further five from 21 MLS appearances.

Magno has also rippled the back of the net three times in six CONCACAF Champions League outings this season.

He’s a real talent and that was evident for all to see in New York City’s most recent MLS match at home against Phil Neville’s Inter Miami side.

The hosts secured a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Maxi Moralez and Heber. They’re now just one point behind Eastern Conference table-toppers Philadelphia Union with a game in hand.

Magno played 61 minutes in the match before being replaced by Gabriel Pereira and during his time on the pitch, the youngster produced one of the best first touches we’ve ever seen in a professional setting.

In the 37th minute of proceedings, Magno somehow managed to turn defence into attack by killing the ball dead after it had been airborne for a good few seconds.

The fact an opposing player was in close proximity – who eventually got left on his backside by Magno’s magic – made the Zinedine Zidane-esque touch even better…
