MP speaks out after two men charged in Manchester Airport investigation

The MP representing two men who have been charged in connection with an incident at Manchester Airport has spoken out.

Greater Manchester Police said they were were called to the incident between members of the public at Terminal Two on July 23. The force has been investigating the actions of the individuals whilst the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been probing the actions of the officers involved.

The Crown Prosecution Service has today (December 20) charged two men with assaults on police officers. No police officers will be charged, the CPS said in a statement - although the IOPC is still investigating the conduct of two officers with a decision 'to be made'.

Mohammed Amaaz, 20, is charged with two offences of causing actual bodily harm, one charge of assaulting an emergency worker and one charge of common assault. Muhammed Amaad, 25, is charged with causing actual bodily harm.

The two defendants will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on January 16, 2025. Rochdale MP Paul Waugh has now issued a statement following the decision by the CPS to charge two of his constituents.

He said: “There has been huge public concern over the Manchester Airport incident and I’ve always said that the independent judicial process should be allowed to run its course. In the interests of all concerned, now that the CPS has made its charging decision no one should make any comment that prejudices the court process.

“We should also wait for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation, which is due to conclude shortly in the New Year.
