MotoGP Germany: Dixon ‘struggling with strange vibration’

Jake Dixon didn’t have the Sunday he expected at the Sachsenring after vibration issues with his GasGas Aspar reared their ugly head for the Moto2 race.

An intensely hot 28-lap German Grand Prix was made considerably more challenging with both on track issues and the Brit’s physical condition - following a massive FP3 crash on Saturday which left Dixon seeking the assistance of the circuit’s medical team ahead of the battle.

“Yeah, not [feeling] great but Clinica have done a great job to get me as ready as I can be and just ready to get going now,” Dixon confirmed on the grid. “It’s gonna be a long, hot race and yeah, I’m gonna get stuck in.”

Unfortunately, things didn’t quite pan out as planned for the 26-year-old. After launching form fourth on the Saxony grid, Dixon was running seventh on the opening lap before dropping down the order to sit 14th by the start of the second half.

Regrouping and battling with the riders around him, he topped the group by the close of the contest, crossing the line eleventh for five championship points, bringing him back into the top ten in the overall standings.

“I actually felt not so bad,” he admitted from the paddock on Sunday evening. “Obviously I was hot on the bike. I didn’t feel too bad but overall I just really struggled in the race.

“I just, for some reason didn’t have the grip that I’ve had all weekend and I had some strange vibration that I had in Q1, again. It’s the only two times I’ve actually had it all weekend.

“I don’t ever go backward but today went backwards and just salvaged what I could. In the group that I was in, I ended up at the front of it but I just bullied my way to the front and did the possible best that I could do.
