'Motherwell' performance in Hearts win delights boss Stuart Kettlewell

Stuart Kettlewell says his side put in a ‘Motherwell’ performance to beat Hearts at Fir Park this afternoon.

Goals from Paul McGinn, Stephen O’Donnell and Tom Sparrow put the Edinburgh side to the sword 3-1, and handed Motherwell their first Premiership win of the season.

Kettlewell says while the performance could have been better, there’s not a lot to be unhappy about.

He said: “I’m frustrated about the goal we conceded, but there’s lots to like and that’s what we need to look like as a Motherwell team.

“It’s a Motherwell performance for me, and by that it’s not to patronise anybody, but we need to have this work ethic, we have to be fully committed to what we’re doing, and the good things will start to happen.

“Once or twice over recent weeks there have been moments where we’ve taken a back step, and I don’t think we can do that to be successful and win games at this level.

“I’m delighted with the commitment from the players, delighted with the quality, and I would have loved the clean sheet, but there’s not a lot to be too negative about what we did today.”

Kettlewell added: “I think all round for us it was a good day.

“The result is the most important thing, but I felt it came with a really strong performance as well, individually and collectively.

“I’ve kind of nit-picked a little bit in wanting us to grow offensively, create more chances and start to be a little bit more free-flowing, to take the shackles off, and I thought we did that today.

“I thought in open play we carved out some not-bad opportunities as well, I thought we looked pretty strong, defensively.

“We’re playing against a good side, we need to remember that, and we’re playing against, in my opinion, a world-class goalkeeper.
