Motherwell not seeking St Mirren 'revenge' mission, but want to keep impressive run going, says No.2

Motherwell No.2 Stephen Frail insists his side aren’t gunning for revenge against St Mirren on Saturday, but want to maintain their good start to the season.

Saints are the only side to defeat the Steelmen this term, ousting them from the Viaplay Cup last 16 with a 1-0 win in Paisley that also saw the Lanarkshire side lose winger Mika Biereth to injury for three months, after a late tackle by ex-Fir Park defender Charles Dunne.

Motherwell have otherwise done well, beating Hearts 1-0 at Tynecastle a week past Sunday to go joint-top of the Premiership with champions Celtic, having been undefeated in their last 10 top flight games.

And Frail wants to keep that going. He said: “We’re not looking to get one back on St Mirren.

“We just felt that we didn’t play as well as we could have, and as we had been playing leading into the St Mirren game in the cup, and it was disappointing, with such a vociferous travelling support as well.

“We just felt that we never got out of the bit and put them under enough pressure.

“In the second half we were a lot better, were gaining a little bit of momentum, and then the injury to Mika Biereth happens, which sort of knocked the wind out of our sails a wee bit.

“But it’s nothing about revenge, we just want to keep the good start to the season going, and hopefully get a positive result against them.

“It has been a really good start, the players have been excellent. We had a hard start, going to a newly-promoted team [in Dundee] and we’re a wee bit disappointed that we came away with only a point, because we felt we probably did enough to win the game.

“But probably so would Dundee, so we take the point and move on from that.
