Motherwell No.2 pinpoints Lennon Miller's 'unbelievable trait' as he backs starlet for future Scotland recognition

Fir Park No.2 Stephen Frail believes more international recognition will come for Lennon Miller as the Motherwell midfielder aims to help Scotland’s under-19s reach the European Championships this summer.

The young Scots enter the Elite qualifying round this week with Italy, Georgia and Czech Republic all standing in their way in Group 5.

Wishaw teenager Lennon has been in impressive form of late after returning from a broken patella and is in Billy Stark’s squad as the U19s seek to top their group to qualify for the finals in Northern Ireland.

There have been calls for the 17-year-old to play at a higher level for his country after recent displays in the Premiership, notably against both Celtic and Rangers.

Frail feels that will follow for the Fir Park sensation eventually and he has praised the former Coltness High School pupil - son of ex-Aberdeen and Scotland striker Lee - for keeping his feet firmly on the ground amid all the plaudits.

Frail said: “Lennon has been terrific for us all season. The injury probably set him back and took an edge away from us at times, so it is good to see him back.

“His performances against Hearts, Livingston and Rangers shows what he is capable of.

“What is impressive is the humility he shows around the football club.

“He has had all this recognition and a lot of stuff was said about his piece of skill in the goal against Celtic [setting up Blair Spittal] – which was certainly meant because he tries it every day in training – but he is very level-headed about it all.

“It is an unbelievable trait, which comes from his dad and his family, and he will continue to grow, learn and develop to become a first-class football player.
