Motherwell midfielder Blair Spittal named Premiership player of the month in rare accolade for Steelmen

Motherwell midfielder Blair Spittal has been crowned Premiership player of the month after a fantastic February.

The 28-year-old is just the third Motherwell player to pick up the prize in the last five years.

But it comes off the back of some stunning goals and big performances in claret and amber.

Spittal has been in superb form for Stuart Kettlewell's side and scored four goals last month, with a double in the 5-0 demolition job of Ross County, an oustanding opener in the 3-1 defeat to Celtic and a peach of a strike in the 3-1 triumph at Livingston. There were also three assists.

All that - coupled with their strong start to March in beating Rangers - has helped the Steelmen climb to eighth in the table.

To top it all off, Spittal also picked up the club's player of the month, as voted for by fans.

Spittal told the club website: "It’s been a much more positive month for the team.

“That is always the main thing but obviously, it’s nice to be personally recognised.

“I’ve been loving my football and think the system has really worked for me. We don’t want to stop here, the manager has been big on that.

“We want to use the momentum we’ve built up in the remaining games.

"There’s a lot of football still to be played and we want finish strongly.”

Motherwell are idle this week and return to action next Saturday when they host Aberdeen on Premiership duty.
