Motherwell AC runners excel in various competitions

Motherwell Athletics Club sent a 15-strong squad to Edinburgh to take part in the Sri Chinmoy 5k race amid a busy month for the club.

Senior athletes took part in the race at Silverknowes Esplanade, which was both this year’s National 5k Championship event, and the fourth race in the club’s 2024 Road Running Championship.

The first Motherwell AC vest over the line was Jonathan Moore, who finished in a personal best time of 15.09.

Next was Michael Cushley, knocking a massive 15 seconds off his previous best in 19.03, and Alan Main in 19.29.

First female for Motherwell AC was Maryann Milne, with a new personal best time of 21.03, followed by Lilly Jeffrey in 22.18 and Gillian McCaffer in 22.19.

Peter Gallagher crossed the line in 22.21, Scott Dickson in 22.29, Colin Gardner in 23.14 and Stephen Pollock in 24.58.

Kelly Anne Shaw clocked a debut time of 25.03, closely followed by Jac Molloy in 25.12.

Gary Wood finished in 27.53, then Emma Main in 28.40 on her return from injury.

Patricia Allen finished second in her WV70 category, finishing in 33.53.

Meanwhile, the club’s senior endurance athletes have also been in fine form.

A big well done also goes to Emma Main who completed the Belfast Marathon last week.

She said: “Belfast is a cracking city and the roads were packed with supporters all the way, a really good atmosphere with multiple race options on.

“It was a great way to see all parts of the city as well.”

Congratulations go to Russell Berwick who earlier this month took part in the brand new Newcastle-Gateshead Marathon.

Taking in the famous landmarks of Gateshead including Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Sage Gateshead, BALTIC, Tyne Bridge and the Swing Bridge, the race finished in the iconic Gateshead International
