Morton v Airdrie cup clash too close to call, says Raith Rovers boss Ian Murray

Raith Rovers boss Ian Murray says today’s SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-final between Morton and his old club Airdrie is too close to call.

But Murray says he needs to make sure his side are prepared to meet whoever visits Stark’s Park in February head-on.

The Diamonds head to Cappielow this afternoon on a bit of form, which has them sitting fourth in the Championship table, whereas Morton are bottom, with two wins out of 12.

Murray says he absolutely wouldn’t discount Morton from reaching the penultimate stage, though, while Airdrie are doing well.

Raith Rovers ensured their passage with a 4-1 triumph over 10-man Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park, and afterwards former Airdrie boss Murray said: “We’re in the semi-finals, we’ll see who we get.

“We’re at home. We said going into this game we had a chance to get to a final if we beat a League One team, and then win a home semi-final.

“You don’t often get a home semi-final, so we have to try and capitalise on it and use last year’s disappointment to get us there, and see what happens.

“The main thing is that we have an opportunity, that’s all we can ask for at this stage of the season.

“The players deserve a humongous amount of credit for what they’ve done so far this season.

“That was our 20th competitive game, we’ve lost two games, won 13 or 14, and they deserve a lot of plaudits.

“But when you get success and you get a good feeling, you want more.”

On the clash in Greenock, Murray said: “I wouldn’t like to call that one, I really don’t know.

“I think both teams have really good attributes.
