Moreeng not happy with Proteas' horror England tour, but takes 'a lot of positives'

While is not happy with the team's overall performance during their England tour, Proteas coach Hilton Moreeng feels there are a lot of positives ahead of this week's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

On Monday, South Africa slumped to a 38-run loss in Derby to hand the hosts a clean sweep in the three-game T20I series.

It ended a horror tour for the Proteas women as the tourists struggled to secure a single win on their multi-format tour of England.

Despite losing both te ODI and T20 series, the Proteas do not have a lot of time to dwell as they prepare for the start of this week's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Moreeng says there are many positives ahead of their opening match of the Games on Saturday.

"It has been a really tough tour, we had good performances individually but not as a collective. We weren't as consistent as we'd like to be," Moreeeng told reporters on Monday.

"We had some good performances, especially on the eve of the Commonwealth Games, it gives us the confidence in the shorter format. The turnaround is very short, but there are a lot of positives to take in."

Women's cricket will make its Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham and the women-only T20 event will have eight teams competing at the iconic Edgbaston.

The Proteas women, fifth on the ICC T20 team rankings, are grouped in Pool B alongside hosts England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

South Africa will get their Commonwealth campaign underway this Saturday against the New Zealand White Ferns.

"We're not very proud of the results that we've seen, we're not accustomed to it as a team. We know going to the Commonwealth Games, it's once-off games and we know that it's like knockouts," said Moreeng.
