Kyler Murray: Ryan Clark sounds off on a bizarre clause in Cardinals QB's contract

ESPN analyst Ryan Clark has reacted to a rather bizarre detail that has emerged about Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and his brand new contract. 

Having played a big part in the recent upwards progress of the Arizona Cardinals franchise in recent years, watching them go from 5 wins in his rookie season in 2019, 8 wins in 2020 and 11 wins last season, Kyler Murray finally put paper to a brand new contract last week. 

The deal sees him getting paid $230.5m over the course of his deal that is set to see him under centre in the desert until 2028 and includes as much as $105m in guaranteed money, the former value being the 3rd-highest contract value of any player in the NFL right now.

The contract will include a lot of clauses that will relate to bonuses for performance, but there is one detail that has recently emerged that has caused something of a stir in NFL circles, and it relates to what he has to do whilst away from the team.

Details emerged yesterday that Murray must complete, what is being worded in the contract as ‘at least four hours of independent study’ during weeks that the Cardinals have games:

Now studying game film is something that every quarterback and indeed every player in the NFL does, and something you would expect them to do anyway, but clearly something is up with Murray that they feel like they have to put in writing for him to do a certain amount.
