More young people voted for Reform than Tories, study finds

A new report has revealed that more people aged between 18-30 voted for the Reform Party than the Conservatives. The YouGov poll which surveyed more than 35,000 voters found that 9.5 per cent of people in that age group had confidence with Nigel Farage's party while just eight percent voted Tory.

The study also showed that almost 18 percent of young people voted Green. While the Reform Party have gained the headlines, the Greens seemed to be the winner of this year's general election among young voters.

The survey highlighted that among those between 18-24, 18 per cent of people voted Greens, up from 6 per cent in 2015. They also managed to win more votes from people aged 25-29 with 12 per cent of people in that bracket saying they backed the Greens in this year's General Election.

Labour was the most popular party for young people in the General Election, eclipsing their competitors with 41 per cent of those aged 18-24 voting labour and scoring 45 per cent of votes among those aged 25-29. The party did see a decline in votes as the ages rose, with only 24 per cent of voters aged 60-69 getting their vote, compared to 33 per cent for the Conservatives.

Broken down by gender, 12 per cent of men aged between 18-24 backed Reform compared to 6 per cent of women who voted. Among those whose highest qualification was GCSE or lower, almost 23 per cent of voters backed Reform.

According to political commentators, one of the key factors to Reform party's popularity among the youth has been through their success on social media, primarily Tik Tok. The right wing party has the most followers on the app amongst the political parties
