'Unusual' pier with breathtaking Lake District views up for grabs for less than you might think

An incredible pier with insane views over some of the most beautiful parts of the country has come onto the market - and for a ridiculously low price.

Askam Pier in Cumbria is going up for auction with a guide price of just just £5,000 - less than the price of an average second hand car.

The historic pier is located in Furness overlooking the Duddon estuary with views to the Irish Sea and western Lakeland Fells.

The pier was originally constructed to serve the iron ore mining industry, reports Luxury Property News.

There is a gap from the mainland to the pier, and a bridge has been installed to link the two.

The pier spans approximately one acre (40,200sqm).

A video shows what the prospective new owner will be buying – with the agent calling it a “very unusual lot”.

Walking along the pier, stunning ocean views can be seen surrounding the site.

The end of the pier boasts panoramic views of the estuary and a peaceful spot to reflect and observe the nature around.

The property is available by auction with Auction House Cumbria on Thursday 5 September at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle, with a guide price of £5,000.

In other unusual buys, last month Mirror Online reported the auction of the historic Grade II Listed Red Mill on Haddiscoe Island, a landmark of the East Norfolk Coast.

Originally built in the mid-19th century as a drainage pump, the carefully converted landmark has a guide price of £225,000 - £250,000 (plus fees) and offers a unique opportunity for buyers.
