"More likely to leave Leicester" – talkSPORT reporter now drops major claim on £13m-rated star

Leicester are “more likely” to let Kasper Schmeichel leave than than keep him at the club this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The £13m-rated Denmark international is approaching the final 12 months of his Foxes contract and he has recently been linked with a move away from the Midlands.

According to talkSPORT, the 34-year-old is set for talks with the Leicester hierarchy to decide over his future.

The report states that Schmeichel wants to play European football having done so in each of the last two seasons, but Leicester’s failure to win the Europa Conference League or finish in the top seven means that won’t be able to happen at the King Power Stadium next season.

Schmeichel has been an outstanding servant for the club over the last 11 years, making more than 450 appearances for the club, and played a key role in their title winning campaign in 2015-2016.

In fact, the Dane hadn’t missed a single minute of Premier League football for almost four years before he was dropped for the Watford game last weekend.

His absence allowed Danny Ward to make a rare top-flight appearance, and Crook reckons that being left on the bench at Vicarage Road could suggest that he might leave Leicester this summer.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think it was a coincidence that he didn’t play in the Watford game, and I think at the moment, he’s probably more likely to leave Leicester than stay.

“He’s not getting any younger, so this is probably the last chance that he has to play in the Champions League.”
