Mohammed Kudus details two things West Ham did well to beat Manchester United

West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus praised his side's defensive discipline before springing on the counter-attack to beat Manchester United 2-0 on Saturday.

United saw the optimism from last week's 0-0 draw at Liverpool dissipate during another toothless attacking performance at the London Stadium. West Ham kept it tight before two goals in six minutes from Jarrod Bowen and Kudus delivered a sucker-punch to Erik ten Hag's men.

United did dominate possession and territory up until Bowen's 72nd-minute opener but only registered three shots on target and were deserving of defeat in the end. And Kudus explained how his side's gameplan worked to perfection to deliver three points before Christmas.

“Manchester United are a very good team and everybody gave their best,” he told whufc.com. “I’m very happy to help the team get the three points. It’s an amazing Christmas gift for the fans, and I hope they enjoyed it.

“They are a very good side and we knew it. We had to be very disciplined defensively and then make use of the counter-attacks when we won the ball. We were able to do that and I’m very happy for it to work."

United only had one glaring chance to score during their period of possession, but Alejandro Garnacho fluffed his lines in the first-half after being played through on goal by Antony. The Brazilian winger also saw a tantalising cross missed by Rasmus Hojlund and Garnacho at the far post.

But mistakes cost them once again, with Andre Onana weak to stop Bowen's initial effort before the Hammers man bundled the ball into the net. young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo then lost the ball
