Nuno Espirito Santo reveals what Nottingham Forest did to stop Manchester United

Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo felt his side 'controlled' Manchester United following their 2-1 triumph at the City Ground on Saturday evening.

Second-half goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White, either side of a Marcus Rashford equaliser, sealed a fully merited three points for the home side, who were buoyed by their 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day. They were quicker and sharper from the first whistle, dominating proceedings in midfield.

They made life difficult for Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo in the engine room, stifling United's hopes of playing through the thirds while getting plenty of joy in the wide areas going forward. They stepped up the level of pressure after the break, again getting success out wide.

For Nuno, who has won two of his first three games in charge since replacing Steve Cooper earlier this month, his side were worthy of clinching all three points, praising them for the way in which they controlled proceedings and stopped United from playing their own game.

"I think we played good," Nuno told BBC Sport. "In the first half we controlled the game but didn't create many chances.

"We controlled Manchester United, we know where they have quality. It's about being together. The players did well.

"We had shots in the first half but needed more accuracy. I think the second half it changed, we created more and then the first goal is a good combination and a fantastic finish. We conceded but its my responsibility. You can say Matt [Turner] did not do well, but they tried to play with the idea.
