If Evertonians are wondering whether Frank Lampard will understand their club, they can at least be reassured that he’ll at least be able to understand what ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ means.
Speaking exclusively to the ECHO during Everton’s managerial search, Blues legend Neville Southall declared: “We’ve got to live up to our motto but at the moment we’re not.”
Lampard grew up in an environment very different to the streets that surround Goodison Park, and was one of the few professional footballers to attend public school (Brentwood in Essex) where he attained 11 GCSEs, including his famous A* grade in Latin.
As he once recalled in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine: “I was pretty studious at school.
“I wasn’t the most naturally intelligent kid in the class, but I was fortunate to go to a very good school where they pushed you hard, and like most things I didn’t want to let anyone down, so I revised hard for my exams.
