Mikel Arteta's 12-month review shows progress but Arsenal can't get complacent

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that things are very different at the club now than they were a year ago.

This time last season, Arsenal were fighting for a European place but ended up missing out for the first time in 26 years, but they now look on course to qualify for the Champions League. Arteta has always told fans to 'trust the process', but it's only been recently that a major change has been noticeable.

Arteta has huge ambitions for the future, and they're certainly heading in the right direction to achieve those goals. But the Spaniard can't get complacent, after revealing how the club has improved over the last 12 months.

The greatest teams build on success, rather than settle for it, and it's largely why there's such a margin between Liverpool and Manchester City, as opposed to the rest of the Premier League. Even with the talent that they possess, they continue to strengthen and demand more from their players, rather than take it easy while at the top.

Arsenal were far from taking it easy at the start of the season, as they began a campaign with no European football in the worst possible way. Arteta's side were rock bottom after three matches, and the Spaniard's job was in jeopardy.

However, they've been a completely different side since then and they are unrecognisable to their former selves, as Arteta touched upon in his pre-match press conference ahead of their clash against West Ham on Sunday. He said: "We have very different players in the squad and we have a very different environment.
