Mick Schumacher: "P6 in Canada quali shows why I'm here"

Mick Schumacher took the opportunity post qualifying in Canada to fight his corner and say that his impressive P6 finish for Sunday’s race proves that he is in Formula 1 for a reason.

The young German is searching to get his first-ever championship points this weekend in F1 and has set himself up with a great chance of achieving that, with him starting on the third row alongside Kevin Magnussen.

It comes as a timely reminder of his talents behind the wheel, too, after a sense of growing pressure, in part thanks to a big incident in Monaco at the end of May.

Speaking after quali, though, he said that he did not listen to any of the speculation, and instead said that this result shows that he is in F1 for a reason, and not just to make the numbers up:

“Obviously it is nice to have a good result but it is also something to build on.

“[It] just proves to everybody that I am here for a reason.”

“I don’t really listen to [the scrutiny.]

“I am here for a reason and that is because I love the sport and love racing. I have proven enough in my junior days to have a reason to be here and the rest, again, I love this sport, that is why I am here.”

Fair play to Mick for handling tricky conditions and achieving his best-ever qualifying in Formula 1, whilst also helping Haas earn their joint-best ever qualifying in terms of both cars alongside Magnussen in fifth.

Guenther Steiner will be hoping that a double points finish could well be around the corner later this evening in Montreal.
