Mick Schumacher & Nico Hulkenberg in battle for remaining Haas seat

The battle for the 2023 Haas seat alongside Kevin Magnussen now looks a straight battle between compatriots Mick Schumacher and Nico Hulkenberg.

The driver line-up for 2023 has been gradually taking shape in recent weeks with the likes of Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso making moves and Yuki Tsunoda and Zhou Guanyu sealing new contracts with their respective teams.

Things at Haas for 2023 remain a little unclear, however, with them proving in no rush to decide who they’d like alongside Magnussen for next year.

Team boss Guenther Steiner has already said that the team does not feel the need to make a quick call on the situation, either, but it does seem as though the nationality of the driver alongside KMag in the Haas garage will be German, at least, with two names seemingly now in the frame.

Antonio Giovinazzi and Daniel Ricciardo have both been linked with a potential move to Haas for 2023 but Bild reported towards the end of last week that it is now between Schumacher and Hulkenberg for the seat.

Hulkenberg is believed to have a good relationship with Steiner and the team boss has said fans ‘would love’ it if he partnered up with Magnussen for next year given the two have kissed and made up after a high-profile spat at the Hungarian GP back in 2017.

Schumacher, meanwhile, has five races left to try and convince Steiner he remains the driver for the job for 2023, with him putting in a decent performance at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, though it was hampered by an incident involving George Russell that was more the Merc man’s fault, and he’ll be looking to try and deliver another solid drive at Suzuka this coming weekend.
