Michael Owen agrees with Alan Shearer after Manchester United defeat

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes the referees were right not to award a penalty for handball against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds had a couple of good chances in the first half at Spurs with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes both going close. But, they were left feeling hard done by midway through the first half when Alejandro Garnacho's strike struck the arm of Cristian Romero inside the area.

Both the referee and the VAR officials decided it was not worthy of a penalty and play continued. United would go on to lose 2-0 and speaking after the match, Fernandes demanded an apology for what he deemed was a mistake by the referees.

He told Stadium Astro: "You will have to ask him [the referee why it was not given]. They have to start giving interviews after the games so they can explain themselves. It is a clear penalty, no excuses for not seeing, no excuses for VAR not seeing that.

"Last week they made a big thing on United not having a penalty against, I want to see what is going to happen this week, if there is going to be the same show they did last week. I want to see if Jon Moss also comes to apologise to our dressing room like they said they did to the manager of Wolves. I hope he is here and he can come."
