Michael Beale 'can't win' in Rangers goal debate as Scottish Cup sportsmanship divides fan opinion

He has won many plaudits for his act of kindness - but Michael Beale has got some Rangers fans torn over whether it was right or not.

Debate has raged after the Light Blues made it to the Scottish Cup quarter-final with a dramatic 3-2 win against Partick Thistle. Malik Tillman scored a controversial second Rangers goal when Thistle sought to kick it back to their hosts following an injury to the Bayern Munich loanee, and the Ibrox manager ordered his men to allow Scott Tiffoney a leveller.

An own goal eventually won the day for the home team but some fans were not happy with the decision to allow a goal to be given away, while some raved about a classy touch from the boss. According to former goalkeeper Cammy Bell, the Londoner has left himself exposed to critics but his call was measured. The former Rangers stopper told Superscoreboard: "It was an amazing afternoon and we will probably never see the likes of it again.

"I have seen a lot of bizarre things but never what happened on Sunday. Michael Beale is a clever man, he would have thought this through at the side of the pitch.

"He would have understood the time of the game, the way it was flowing and knew his team would have got over the line in the end. Michael Beale has left himself open to criticism.

"There are still Rangers fans who don't think he's done the right thing. He had to make a decision either way and I don't think he can win in this scenario."
