Miami Open news: British trio fail to make it past qualifiers

Harriet Dart, Liam Broady and Jay Clarke have been eliminated from the Miami Open before it’s even properly started as they failed to make it past the qualifier stages.

Despite having a fantastic run at the Indian Wells Masters after reaching the fourth round at the Californian based tournament, Dart couldn’t reproduce the same standard of performances on the other side of the States.

The 25-year-old, who has just entered the top 100, lost in straight sets, 3-6, 3-6, against her German opponent Tatjana Maria, who will now play another qualifier match against Yue Yuan from China to try and make it to the main competition which gets underway from today.

And the final Brit to be eliminated from the tournament is former junior British No 1 Jay Clarke who was easily defeated by US player
