The match itself could hardly have been more epic, taking five hours and 26 minutes to complete on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. Eventually, after several failed attempts to close it out, Altmaier secured a five-set, 6-7(0) 7-6(7) 1-6 7-6(4) 7-5, victory to progress through to the third round.
