Hull City player outlines key squad worry regarding off-field situation

Hull City midfielder George Honeyman has revealed his teammates are concerned about the club’s failure to address several players’ contract situations yet but understands that the takeover may put this issue down on the board’s lists of priorities at this stage, speaking to Hull Live.

The East Yorkshire outfit were taken over by Turkish businessman and television personality Acun Ilicali in January, bringing the Allam family’s turbulent reign to an end and starting what looks set to be an exciting era at the MKM Stadium.

Ilicali made a real statement of intent towards the end of the winter window, sanctioning five signings and rumoured to be interested in tying down Manchester United’s Di’Shon Bernard and Chelsea’s Nathan Baxter to permanent deals.

Also sacking Grant McCann and bringing in his own manager in Shota Arveladze, it has certainly been a busy period for the former journalist as he looks to transform the club from their current status to a Premier League club.

One issue that has seemingly been pushed aside though is renewing contracts, an especially important task for the club with the likes of captain Richie Smallwood and Honeyman able to leave on the expiration of their contract this summer if no agreement is reached.

Eight players in total will be free agents at this stage and with five loanees set to return to their parent clubs at the end of this term, the Tigers could find themselves severely lacking in depth and quality unless they move to rectify this problem.

And though Honeyman says his teammates understand the current situation, he has issued a plea to the board to provide more certainty to those out of contract as quickly as possible.
