Met Office issues another UK thunderstorm warning for second day in a row

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of the UK today - in what is the second warning in two days.

The yellow thunderstorm warning will come into force at 12pm this lunchtime and will last until 11pm tonight. It covers some parts of the North West, including parts of Lancashire and Cumbria.

It also includes parts of the North East of England and parts of the Yorkshire and Humber. In the areas covered by the alert, forecasters predict that heavy showers and storms will 'lead to a chance of some flooding and disruption in places'.

Driving conditions are likely to be affected by the heavy rain with delays to train services 'possible'. There may also be some flooding of a 'few homes and businesses' in the areas covered by the warning.

Yesterday, the Met Office issued a yellow thunderstorm warning from 2pm until the end of the day as heavy rain battered much of the UK. The warning, which covered all of Greater Manchester, was then extended to last until 2am today.

Today, more rain showers are set to fall over Greater Manchester - though forecasters predict they will be lighter than those yesterday. After a gloomy and overcast start to the morning, light rain showers are expected to fall from around 1pm and are set to last throughout most of the day.

Temperatures are predicted to reach highs of around 17C today. More light rain showers are then forecast to fall throughout the day on Thursday as a similar weather picture is expected.
