Max Verstappen predicted to surpass Schumacher, Hamilton's seven F1 titles

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 world champion, has the potential to clinch a historic eight World Championship titles, according to Damon Hill, the 1996 F1 champion.

After securing the 2021 title in a dramatic finale in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen continued his dominance in the 2022 season, setting a new record with an unprecedented 15 wins in a single campaign.

With two wins in the first three races of the 2023 season, driving for Red Bull's RB19, Verstappen seems poised to defend his title again.

Eight is possible

Speaking on the popular F1 Nation podcast, Hill expressed his admiration for Verstappen's racing prowess and maturity on track.

"I'm sure he'll get better. He has shown more maturity in the application of his talents in races," said Hill, adding, "He knows when to twist and when to stick.

"There's no need to go flat out everywhere, but he's always got something in his back pocket if he needs it."

Hill also praised Verstappen's ruthlessness, a trait he believes is essential for success in the cut-throat world of F1.

"The sky is the limit - it could be eight world titles. There's a ruthlessness to it as well," Hill remarked.

"Most people find it difficult to relate to that because, in normal life, it's regarded as being selfish and unattractive.

"But it's a totally appropriate mindset when competing in a sport where the objective is to win. It's not to do well or play nicely, it's to win. So that is what he has."

Verstappen's next challenge will be the race in Azerbaijan on 30 April, navigating the treacherous Baku City Circuit in pursuit of another victory.
