Matt O'Riley 'targeted' by Galatasaray but Celtic transfer temptation may already have Brendan Rodgers answer

Celtic will have their transfer resolve tested over Matt O'Riley with Galatasaray targeting the star in a mega-money deadline day deal, according to a report.

The Danish international was subject to interest from across Europe during the January window with Atletico Madrid and La Liga title hopefuls Girona launching bids for O'Riley after a stunning season for the Scottish Premiership leaders that saw him score ten and assist 12 so far. But Celtic are in no rush to lose him and it is understood it would likely take a club record bid to take the 23-year-old away from Glasgow's east end.

But that does not appear to have deterred Galatasaray as they looks to splash some of the £30million they received from Bayern Munich for Sacha Boey before the end of the Turkish transfer window. The winter window in Turkey closes at midnight on February 9 and Haber Mayden claim that O'Riley has been added to the boss Okan Buruk wishlist with the club keen to key a midfielder in before the deadline.

It is claimed the Istanbul giants are "expected" to make an attempt to land the key Hoops midfielder in a €15million (£12.8million) deal. It is said the Super Lig side know they will have to pay a "high fee" to bring Celtic to the table.

But Brendan Rodgers have already sent a clear signal that any attempts to sign O'Riley will be futile before the end of the month. Following an offer from Atletico, the boss said: "There was that (an offer) but Matt is a player we don't want to lose. He won't be going anywhere in January. He's been absolutely brilliant."

Celtic would also be unable to bring in a replacement for the key man amid mounting title pressure from Rangers. It is likely any boot would still be booted out - especially among fan outcry
