Matt O'Riley catches Celtic gaffe by Neil Lennon as midfielder forces Parkhead hero into hasty backtrack

He has been a standout for Celtic so far on the pitch and Matt O'Riley wasn't willing to let anything slip by him off it - even former Parkhead boss Neil Lennon.

The Danish international was instrumental again as the Premiership leaders emerged from cold storage after the winter break to play a key part in the Scottish Cup rout of Highland League side Buckie Thistle. O'Riley pulled the strings in midfield in the absence of captain Callum McGregor as the Hoops ran out 5-0 winners - but could have added to that total against the battling minnows had the offside flag not ruled out several other strikes.

It's these type of displays that have led to the likes of Girona and Inter Milan taking glances at O'Riley during the January transfer window - and Lennon joined his fan club before making a gaffe over the next fixture that Celtic will face. Lennon was full of praise for the playmaker and his contributions so far this season. He lauded him on Viaplay during a post-match debrief stating: "I don't know how many goals and assists you have got this season. From a midfield point of view that is priceless."

The former Parkhead player and boss went on: "Next game is Hibs away..." However, O'Riley immediately struck a bemused figure asking: "Is it?"

Host Emma Dodds interjected: "Ross County?" Before O'Riley also noted "Ross County" as he pointed and pulled a face at the Irishman.

Lennon backtracked: "Sorry, sorry I got my fixture list wrong. It's my age I think." Just for clarity, it is Ross County who will be the next side to face off against Brendan Rodgers men at Celtic Park.
