Matt Ingram Luton Town loan deal extended as Hull City man reveals story behind Hatters move

Matt Ingram has had his emergency loan deal at Luton Town from Hull City extended by another week. Ingram joined the Hatters for their final two matches of the season and after they secured their spot in the top six on the final day, will now take part in their semi-final tie with Huddersfield Town.

Ingram made 29 appearances for City in the Championship this season, but after their survival was mathematically secured, was dropped to the bench in order to hand Nathan Baxter some game time. Speaking to LutonTown.co.uk, he thought that his season was over at that point, but when Nathan Jones’ side came calling, he couldn’t turn down the chance.

He said: “It has been mental! Obviously getting Hull safe, I then got dropped to the bench to allow Nathan (Baxter) to get a few games at Hull, and I was looking forward to my summer really. But then this came about, and it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

“We (Hull) played Bristol City on the Saturday and Luton had Fulham on Monday on TV. I woke up on Sunday morning to a million missed calls from Hull, and then the gaffer at Luton and Kev Pilkington, the goalie coach, called me and it was all sorted Sunday morning.

"I then had to go and train Sunday afternoon, travel and then play Fulham on Monday - which we all know was eventful!”

Jones revealed after Luton’s 1-0 win over Reading on Saturday that Ingram had actually booked to go on his honeymoon this summer, after it had to be cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions. But Ingram is happy to put that on hold once again as he looks to cap a crazy few weeks on a personal level with promotion to the Premier
