Mason Mount set to follow in footsteps of Manchester United favourites including Champions League winners

Mason Mount completed his medical at Carrington this week, and is likely to take Manchester United's number 19 shirt from Raphael Varane should the Frenchman take the vacant number four shirt from Phil Jones after he left the club on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old looks set to follow in the footsteps of some huge names at United, along with others whose careers didn't quite turn out to be so glittering at Old Trafford.

The World Cup winner joined the club from Real Madrid two summers ago and instantly established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. He made 34 appearances in all competitions last season and was part of the side that defeated Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final.

The Ivorian youngster joined the club in the transfer window of 2021 for a reported fee of up to £40m and took the number 19. After a slow start to his career in the UK, he dazzled on loan at Sunderland last season, scoring 14 and assisting three. It is not clear whether the 20-year-old will stay at the club next season or be sent out on loan again to aid his development.

Rashford burst onto the scene wearing the number 39 shirt but it was in the number 19 that he cemented himself as one of United’s best players. In 359 games for the club, Rashford has scored 123 goals and won the Player of the Season award last campaign. He will surely be at Old Trafford for many years to come.
