Martin Lewis asks parents if summer holidays should be 'substantially shortened'

ITV presenter Martin Lewis has stepped away from saving everybody a few quid and into the ever controversial debate surrounding school holidays.

The Money Saving Expert is a dad of one to 'Sapphire Susan Lewis', who he had with his wife of 15 years, Lara Lewington, in 2012. Which could be why his thoughts turned to the upcoming summer holidays in the UK.

With his beloved daughter turning 12 this year, Martin is well accustomed to the hardships (and joy) that a lengthy school break can bring. With that in mind, he turned to X to ask, are the summer holidays too long?

In a poll that has currently had a staggering 41,500 plus votes, he wrote: "Today's Twitter Poll: Should the long summer school holiday be substantially shortened, and the missing time added to Easter, Christmas, & half term breaks? Vote split by if you're a parent of an under 18 or not."

He also took the opportunity to plug his new podcast, adding: "PS this was suggested by @pollymackenzie on my new MoneyFesto podcast."

So far it is a fairly even split between all of the possible options - showing how difficult this subject tends to be. Here's the breakdown:

Parents of an under 18: 24.6 per cent believe that the summer holidays should be shortened and the other holidays lengthened. Compared to 22.6 per cent of parents of an under 18 who believe the holidays should stay as they are.

People who aren't parents of an under 18 also had their say too. With 26.8 per cent saying that the holidays should be shuffled around and 26 per cent of responders disagreeing.
