Marcus Rashford: Video shows Man Utd star's struggles vs Atletico Madrid
Marcus Rashford endured a tough evening for Manchester United in their 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old was hooked in the 75th minute followed a subdued performance, with his replacement Anthony Elanga going on to score the equaliser for United at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Out of Ralf Rangnick’s starting XI, only Paul Pogba received a lower match rating from WhoScored and there are now calls for Rashford to be dropped, with Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes offering their verdicts on the forward.
Carragher told CBS Sports: “He burst onto the scene and he’s always threatened to go to that next level, when the top players get to, and he’s not there yet.
“We’ve got to the stage now where I don’t think he should be in Manchester United’s XI. His performances this season don’t warrant being in the team.”
Meanwhile, Scholes urged Rashford to stop trying to do “something magical” every time he gets the ball.
“He looks too anxious for me, he looks like he is trying almost too hard,” the former United midfielder said on BT Sport.
“Every time the ball comes to him it almost feels like he is trying to do something magical. It is probably the worst thing you can do.”
A video of Rashford’s performance has now emerged and it shows how much he struggled in Madrid.
Rashford was wasteful in possession and failed to make anything happen. The worst part came in the 57th minute when he blasted a long-range effort way over the bar.
