Aston Villa in 'good position' to sign Yves Bissouma

Aston Villa are in a “good position” to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Midlands club were unable to land the 25-year-old last month, but Jones thinks they could still end up bringing him to Villa Park in the near future.

According to the Daily Star, Villa manager Steven Gerrard has been handed £50m to sign either Bissouma or Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, with both players thought to be on his shortlist.

It would not be Gerrard’s first move for Bissouma, as the 41-year-old and Villa had a £25m offer for him rejected by Brighton last month.

“It was well documented that we put in a bid for Bissouma at Brighton which was turned away, and we respected and appreciated that,” Gerrard recently told The Telegraph and other outlets.

Bissouma will have just 12 months to run on his contract in the summer, so Brighton may find themselves having to change their stance if Villa come knocking again.

Jones does not think Brighton will be able to keep hold of Bissouma and believes Villa are in a good position to sign him.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “At some point, he has to leave Brighton. He’s not going to stay there, and Aston Villa will be in a good position to sign him.”

Given his contract situation, Bissouma is probably the more likelier signing for Villa.

Ultimately, compared to Ndidi, it looks like it is going to be easier to get the Mali international out of his club, with Brendan Rodgers claiming that the former is worth more than £50m.

“Of course a player of his quality and mindset will attract interest, but he seems very settled here and is a pleasure to work with.
