Marcus Rashford torn into by Alan Shearer as MOTD pundit sends Ruud van Nistelrooy message

Alan Shearer is hoping Ruud van Nistelrooy can whip Manchester United's attack into shape after ripping into Marcus Rashford for his performance against Brighton.

The Red Devils lost 2-1 at the Amex on Saturday, where multiple offside calls negatively impacted Erik ten Hag's team. Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho had a potential winning goal disallowed for the narrowest of calls, but it was Rashford's offside positioning that left Premier League legend Shearer significantly more frustrated.

United wasted several significant opportunities due to Rashford and others failing to time their runs correctly, which meant they returned north empty-handed. However, Shearer is hopeful Old Trafford legend Van Nistelrooy can get Ten Hag's forwards singing in time.

"Amad, I thought, was their best player in forward positions, but there was a lack of understanding about where they were on the pitch, particularly from Marcus Rashford," said Shearer on Match of the Day (via The Mirror). "The number of times they were in offside positions..."

He then provided commentary on several examples of Rashford, 26, and other United players being caught in offside positions. Shearer was especially critical of one instance where Rashford remained offside for an extended period, remarking it "really is staggering" to witness given Rashford had a clear view of the entire Brighton defence.
