Marcus Rashford sets Manchester United targets after signing new contract

Marcus Rashford wants Manchester United to mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season and has set himself the target of beating his career-high tally of 30 goals.

Rashford committed his long-term future to United on Tuesday by putting pen to paper on a new five-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2028, with the option of a further 12 months.

The 25-year-old was happy to remain at Old Trafford after United's dramatic improvement under Erik ten Hag last season. For a while, it looked as though a title challenge could have even been mounted in the Dutchman's debut campaign but United eventually fell away.

It was still a positive year with the trophy drought coming to an end with a Carabao Cup triumph and a return to Champions League football secured. However, Rashford believes United have the quality to go even further in the league but they need to find consistency over the season.

"I think towards the end we maybe let ourselves down a little bit. I think we could have kept the gap a little bit closer," Rashford told United's official website. "But at the end of the day, it's our first year with him [Ten Hag] and one thing he is he's ambitious, he'll try and win everything.

"That's always going to be the aim and I think it has to be the aim for this club, we don't want to play the league just to get into the top four we want to do our best to try and win it. I think we definitely have the squad and the staff to do it. We need to believe in ourselves that we can do it and compete over the period of 38 games in the league.
