Marcos Rojo working with sports psychologist to overcome Manchester United injuries

Marcos Rojo has revealed he is working with a sports psychologist to help overcome the loss of confidence he experienced as part of an injury-ravaged final few years at Manchester United.

The Argentine defender was only able to make nine senior appearances in his final half-a-season in the United squad before leaving the club in the January transfer window of 2020 to join Estudiantes.

Rojo, 32, impressed on his debut for the Argentine club but suffered another injury which saw him sidelined before the season was eventually curtailed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

A year later, Rojo finally secured his permanent exit from United when he joined Boca Juniors in February 2021, where he has made regular appearances ever since.

The centre-back has shown tremendous courage to overcome his string of injury setbacks, and he says a key part of it has been working with a sports psychologist in order to cope mentally with the loss of confidence he has suffered.

“Yes, it’s been a year and a little since I’ve been working with a sports psychologist. Before the games we have talks, to focus our heads on what’s to come,” Rojo told TyC Sports.

“More than anything, I started because of the injuries. I felt that I was making an effort to recover, everything the doctors told me and when I returned to the pitch I got injured and injured. I couldn’t find a way around it. And I began to lose confidence in myself, in my body. But little by little I was improving and the injuries began to be less frequent and I began to feel better.”
