Raphael Varane's concerning Manchester United injury record in numbers after latest setback

Raphael Varane has been unavailable for just 35 per cent of Manchester United's matches this season.

United completed the signing of Varane from Real Madrid for £34m in the summer and that fee appeared shrewd business. Varane arrived with an outstanding CV, having won multiple major honours with Madrid and the World Cup with France.

Varane has proved a classy operator when on the pitch for United, but his injury record at the club has been poor. Varane has sustained multiple different injury problems and he was forced to miss United's match against Everton on Saturday.

Varane has now missed 15 of United's 42 fixtures across all competitions this season through various problems.

That means he's been unavailable for over a third of games. Varane sustained a groin injury in October playing for France and that issue ruled him out for three games. He made his return against Tottenham but suffered a hamstring injury just one week later.

That injury was more severe and Varane was sidelined for well over a month, only returning to play Newcastle after Christmas.

Ralf Rangnick last gave an update on the player on Friday: "Raphael Varane is still injured. He will be missing for the [Everton] game."
