Marcos Rojo: Ex-Man Utd ace sent off for crazy tackle during Boca Juniors v River Plate
Marcos Rojo was shown a straight red card during the final seconds of Sunday’s Superclasico between fierce Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate.
The former Manchester United defender produced a flying kick that caught River’s No. 11 Nicolas De la Cruz flush in the face.
Rojo could have few complaints when referee Dario Herrera immediately flashed the red card in his direction. It was an incredibly reckless and dangerous challenge.
Making Rojo’s challenge even more inexplicable is the fact Boca were moments away from securing all three points.
Dario Benedetto had put Boca 1-0 up at La Bombonera in the 65th minute of the match.
But when the ball bounced outside the penalty area with 30 seconds left on the clock, Rojo took no chances, clearing both the ball and his opponent.
De la Cruz ended up with his head on the ground and his legs in the air.
