Marco Arop finishes 2nd in 1,500m debut at Canadian championships

In his 1,500-metre senior debut, Edmonton's Marco Arop finished 2nd at the Canadian track and field championships in Ottawa on Sunday.

Foster Malleck of Laurel Creek Track and Field Club edged out the 800m specialist to win his first national title in 3:37.68.

Arop finished close behind in 3:38.28, followed by Jonathan Podbielski in 3:38.35.

The 27-year-old elected to make his senior debut in the distance instead of vying for his fifth straight 800m national title.

Canada's Marco Arop eager to showcase versatility at track and field nationals

In the women's 1,500m final, Lucia Stafford claimed the title by clocking 4:08.66, followed by Maggie Smith (4:12.73), and Grace Fetherstonhaugh (4:13.55).

Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney and women's 2025 Canadian champion Audrey Leduc compete in the 200m final starting at 1:54 ET.
