Canadian Camryn Rogers finishes 2nd in women’s hammer throw event at Prefontaine Classic

Camryn Rogers of Canada earned a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

The reigning Olympic and world champion recorded her best throw of 77.81 metres on her first attempt.

China's Zhang Jiale secured the victory with a personal-best throw of 77.94 metres on the final attempt. American DeAnna Price was third, throwing 76.95 metres.

Last month, Rogers won her sixth national title at the Canadian track and field championships in Ottawa.

Both the women's and men's hammer throw events are contested at Diamond League meets but are not part of the series' official program.

Nova Scotia's Sarah Mitton finished just off the podium at the Prefontaine Classic, with a best throw of 19.61 metres on her opening attempt.

American Chase Jackson took the victory (20.56), ahead of Dutch athlete Jessica Schilder (20.11) and Sweden's Fanny Roos (19.70).

Mitton had a 2026 best mark of 20.42 at the season-opening Diamond League meet in Shanghai, where she finished third. Her personal best is 20.68, set in February 2025.
